iOS 27.2 Brings FaceTime Dual Capture to Group Calls

FaceTime Dual Capture now works in Group FaceTime calls. With iOS 27.2, tapping the flip camera button during a group call streams your front and rear cameras at the same time.

Dual Capture debuted in iOS 27 for one-on-one calls. Apple’s iOS 27.2 release notes expand it to Group FaceTime, which is where it is most useful.

FaceTime Dual Capture in iOS 27.2

Flipping the camera turns Dual Capture on

You do not enable Dual Capture in Settings. On a compatible iPhone running iOS 27, flipping the camera during a FaceTime call starts it, and everyone on the call sees you and what is in front of you in the same stream.

That suits a group call, where one person often wants to show the room and react to it at once. You can show a kid taking a first step while the family sees your reaction, or walk through a room and keep your face in the frame.

Sending needs a recent iPhone, but watching does not

Dual Capture runs on the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone Air and newer models. That includes the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and the iPhone Duo.

The people receiving the stream have a lower bar. They need to be on iOS 27, iPadOS 27 or macOS 27 to see both views, so an older iPhone can watch a dual stream even though it cannot send one. iOS 27.2 installs on the iPhone 11 and later, but only the models above can send both cameras.

FaceTime also adds sign language interpreters and live captioners

iOS 27.2 adds a second FaceTime change for accessibility. You can bring a third-party sign language interpreter or live captioner onto a call.

Group calls are where interpreters and captioners matter most, since several people talk over each other.

The Apple TV gets the same kind of support. tvOS 27.2 adds FaceTime links so you can join a call directly from an Apple TV, along with sign language interpreter and captioning support that lets you add third-party services to your calls.
