tvOS 27.2 adds Find My support for the Siri Remote, so a remote lost in the couch now shows up on your iPhone. It works with the Siri Remote (2nd generation) or later.
Apple’s tvOS 27.2 release notes list it under a new Find My heading, saying Find My support lets you locate your Siri Remote (2nd generation) or later using your iPhone. The update is available for the Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) and later, and it comes with a long list of security fixes.
The Find My heading is new, but the Siri Remote has been findable since tvOS 17
Apple first let iPhone owners track down a Siri Remote in 2023, when iOS 17 enabled Find My for the Siri Remotes and tvOS 17 added Precision Finding. Back then the Control Center on the iPhone showed a circle that grew as you moved toward the remote.
What tvOS 27.2 changes is the paperwork around it. The feature now has its own line in Apple’s tvOS release notes, and the Siri Remote (2nd generation) or later is the supported range. That covers the current USB-C model and the one before it, and leaves the original Siri Remote out.
The 2023 version needed a few things lined up. The Apple TV had to be up to date, powered on and connected to the Siri Remote, and the remote itself needed a firmware update that Apple pushed out ahead of tvOS 17. Apple has not said whether tvOS 27.2 changes those requirements, so keep the Apple TV on and nearby when you go looking.
The new Siri Remote adds sound and a tighter range of iPhones
Finding the remote on a map is only half of it. The Siri Remote (4th generation) has a built-in speaker, so Find My can play a sound from the remote, and Apple says that option is exclusive to the newest remote.
Precision Finding on the Siri Remote (4th generation) needs an iPhone Duo, iPhone Air or an iPhone 17 or later, excluding the iPhone 17e, running the latest iOS software. Apple notes that availability varies by region, and its promo image shows Find My on an iPhone 18 Pro pointing to a remote 80 ft ahead.
The new remote costs $59 in the US and works with the Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K. It arrives on November 13 together with the new Apple TV 4K.
The Apple TV HD stays on tvOS 26 and cannot install tvOS 27.2. Its owners can still buy the new remote, which is the one upgrade from this launch that works with their Apple TV.
