Apple has made the new Siri Remote (4th generation) available on its own, so owners of an Apple TV HD or Apple TV 4K can upgrade the remote without paying for the new Apple TV 4K. The headline addition is a built-in speaker that lets Find My play a sound when the remote goes missing.
Apple confirmed that the new Siri Remote is compatible with Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K and can be purchased separately. It can be ordered now. The design stays familiar, so the changes are in what the remote can do when you cannot find it.
The built-in speaker lets you ring a lost Siri Remote from your iPhone
The new Siri Remote keeps the same basic design as the model it replaces. The change is inside, where a speaker now lets Find My play a sound from the remote. Apple says that option is exclusive to the newest Siri Remote, so owners of older remotes need the new hardware to get it.
The addition matches earlier reports of a Siri Remote with a speaker. Anyone who has spent ten minutes digging through couch cushions for the remote will see the appeal.
Apple also lists Precision Finding for the new remote. It works with the Siri Remote (4th generation) paired with iPhone Duo, iPhone Air, or iPhone 17 or later, excluding iPhone 17e, running the latest iOS software. Apple notes that availability varies by region, and its promo image shows Find My on an iPhone 18 Pro pointing to a remote 80 ft ahead.
Owners of a 2nd generation Siri Remote or later already have Find My
Apple says Find My support is available on the Siri Remote (2nd generation or later). That covers the current USB-C model, and tvOS 17 brought Precision Finding to the Siri Remote back in 2023. The sound option is the part Apple calls exclusive to the new remote.
That makes the new remote a smaller step for anyone who already has a recent one. The case is stronger for owners of the original Siri Remote, since Apple lists Find My support only from the 2nd generation onward.
Apple TV HD owners can use the new remote, but Siri AI needs an Apple TV 4K
Apple says Siri AI arrives as a beta on Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) or later. Apple TV HD is not on that list, so the remote is the only new piece those owners can buy..
The new Apple TV 4K (4th generation) costs $299 and is available to pre-order now. The standalone Siri Remote costs $59 in the US and ships on November 13, the same day the new Apple TV 4K arrives.
