Apple Is Building Granular Suggested Actions Controls for Messages in iOS 27.2

Apple is working on granular controls for Suggested Actions in Messages, based on code found in iOS 27.2 beta 3. The screen shows a toggle for each type of one-tap button that can appear under a message.

The find was shared by pdfu on X, who posted an image of the new Suggested Actions page. Suggestions are the buttons that read the context of a conversation and offer to create a Reminder, Note, or Calendar event. Apple pulled Messages suggestions from iOS 27 shortly before the September 14 launch, and its iOS 27 page now lists them as coming in a future software update.

iOS 27.2 Suggested Actions in Messages

Each Suggested Action Gets Its Own Toggle on the New Screen

The screen in the image is titled Suggested Actions and lists five toggles, all switched on.

  • Add to Calendar
  • Add to Reminders
  • Add to Notes
  • Show in Maps
  • Flights and Packages

Above them sits a separate Hide Unused Suggestions switch. The note under it says suggestions you do not use will stop appearing after 30 days. A line at the bottom explains that the way to bring a hidden suggestion back is to turn it off and back on.

Each toggle lets a person keep the buttons they use and switch off the rest. Apple’s iOS 27 page describes Suggestions as quick actions in Messages and Mail, with adding a calendar event and searching for a photo as its examples. The image on that page shows Add to Reminders and Add to Notes buttons under a received iMessage.

Maps and Flights and Packages are not among the actions Apple has described so far. The image also does not show where in Settings the page will live, and because the screen comes from code, Apple could still change or remove it before release.

Apple Has Not Said When Messages Suggestions Will Ship

Apple has not given a date for Messages suggestions. A footnote on its iOS 27 page says Suggestions in Messages conversations are coming in a future software update. The footnote applies to Messages only, not Mail, and the delay covered iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 as well.

The iOS 27.2 cycle began on September 16, with beta 2 following on September 21 and beta 3 on October 5. Apple has not said which update will bring Messages suggestions back. For a refresher on what else changed in the app this year, our iOS 27 Messages update post covers the full list.

Apple lists Suggestions as available in English.
