Following the release of iOS 15.6 update, Apple stops signing iOS 15.5 version

Following the public release of the iOS 15.6 update, Apple has stopped signing iOS 15.5. Owners of compatible iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch will not able to downgrade their devices to iOS 15.5 version.

As per the tech giant’s usual policy, it stops signing older iOS versions after the public release of the latest version so that users can enjoy new features, performance improvements, and more importantly, security fixes.

This practice also renders jailbreaking tools ineffective because jailbreak of the latest iOS version is not immediately available. Apple is strongly against jailbreaking iPhones. Although jailbreak gives iOS users a wider range of apps to download, the company claims it weakens iOS security and makes the device vulnerable to malware.

Therefore, by not signing older software versions, the company restricts jailbreakers’ options to either stay on the older version or update.

Downgrades from iOS 15.6 to iOS 15.5 are no longer possible

In May 2022, Apple seeded the iOS 15.5 update for compatible iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch models that included features like the ability to send and receive money from the Apple Cash card, limit the number of stored episodes in the Apple Podcasts app, introduced  “Communication Safety in Messages” in the U.K., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, and more.

Now, the tech giant has stopped signing iOS 15.5 version which prevents users from downgrading their compatible devices from the latest iOS 15.6 version.

And if an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch needs to be restored, the device will be automatically upgraded to iOS 15.6., the current latest stable version.
