GarageBand gets Liquid Glass makeover on iOS 26

Apple has quietly refreshed GarageBand for iPhone and iPad, marking its first notable update in a year. The November 3 release brings the app to version 2.3.18 and introduces the new Liquid Glass icon design seen across iOS 26, alongside general stability improvements and bug fixes.

GarageBand iOS 26 update

GarageBand’s new icon replaces the familiar white guitar silhouette on an orange background with a more realistic, detailed guitar set against a black backdrop featuring orange starburst tones. The instrument’s Gibson ES-style body, visible strings, and metallic pickups align with Apple’s evolving Liquid Glass aesthetic, which blends gradients and transparency for greater visual depth. This marks one of the few times Apple has significantly redesigned GarageBand’s look, aligning it with the icons of other creative apps like Photomator and Pixelmator Pro, which were updated this week for iOS 26 and macOS Tahoe.

Despite this progress, the iWork suite (Pages, Keynote, and Numbers) remains untouched. These productivity apps have yet to receive their Liquid Glass refresh, even though Apple confirmed plans for unified icon updates earlier this year. The absence of iWork updates contrasts with Apple’s push for design consistency across its ecosystem and suggests the changes may arrive in upcoming iOS 26.1 or macOS Tahoe point releases.

GarageBand’s latest version also improves integration with Apple’s modern creative tools. While Apple’s release notes only mention stability enhancements, users have reported smoother MIDI handling and improved compatibility with iOS 26’s real-time collaboration and audio processing features. This aligns with Apple’s continued effort to position GarageBand as a bridge between casual users and professionals, ensuring it remains competitive against platforms like Ableton and FL Studio Mobile.

The timing of this update appears strategic. With Apple rolling out its new Liquid Glass design language across native apps, GarageBand’s redesign reinforces visual cohesion within the ecosystem. It also signals Apple’s renewed focus on creative software following last year’s updates to Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro for iPad. As Apple continues refining its creative suite, the refreshed GarageBand serves as both a design statement and a technical upgrade, keeping pace with the latest iOS framework improvements.
