Grok Bot is getting Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5.5 as one of the models behind it. Elon Musk says SpaceX will route Grok Bot work to the best backend model for each task, and Claude Opus 5.5 is the first model on the list he gave.
Musk announced the change in a post on X that a SpaceXAI engineer on the Grok Bot team quoted while announcing an upgrade. Midjourney, Suno, and other leading APIs round out his list.
Elon Musk Wants Grok Bot to Use Whichever Model Fits the Task
Musk’s note promises “the best back end model for any given task” from here on. He described the goal as whatever is most likely to give users the best outcome.
Claude Opus 5.5 is named first, followed by Midjourney and Suno. Midjourney is an image generator and Suno makes music, so the list reaches well past text and coding.
The post does not say which tasks go to Claude Opus 5.5 or which Grok Bot plans get it. Grok Bot launched in August as an agent platform where each bot works on its own cloud computer. The most recent release, version 0.66.0 on October 2, added a Main Bot option that coordinates work across your other bots.
Anthropic Already Runs Claude on SpaceX Hardware
Anthropic and SpaceX already work together. In May, Anthropic announced a deal to use all of the compute capacity at SpaceX’s Colossus 1 data center. The announcement put that capacity at more than 300 megawatts and over 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs, and said it would improve capacity for Claude Pro and Claude Max subscribers.
Claude Opus 5.5 also has a Cursor connection. It launched on September 22 and scored 57.8 percent on CursorBench 4.0 in Anthropic’s launch tests, ahead of Claude Fable 5.1 at 51.8 percent. Cursor is part of SpaceXAI, and Grok Bot is sold through Cursor plans. Anthropic also says Claude Opus 5.5 costs 40 percent less to run than Claude Opus 5.
Grok Bot Starts at $20 per Month on iPhone, iPad, and Mac
Grok Bot works on Mac and iOS, and it arrived on iPad in September alongside cheaper plans. Grok Bot signs in to your apps, learn workflows you show them as routines, and keep working while your laptop is closed.
The Grok Bot page lists these entry prices:
- Cursor Pro costs $20 per month
- SuperGrok costs $30 per month
- Cursor Teams Standard costs $40 per seat per month
Enterprise customers contact sales for access. Rival agents are also close. Meta’s Muse reached iPad this week, and OpenAI launched Dots, always-on agents powered by GPT-6 Astra, on September 29.
