Repairing a damaged Apple HomeView costs $279 without AppleCare+ and $39 with it. The same fees apply to the countertop model and the wall-mounted model, and to any type of damage.
HomeView costs $299 in the United States for either model, so the out-of-warranty fee sits only $20 below the price of a new one. Apple has not said whether that fee covers repairing individual parts or swapping in a replacement unit.
AppleCare+ for HomeView costs $2.49 a month or $24.99 a year
Coverage is billed until canceled, either monthly at $2.49 or yearly at $24.99. Paying yearly costs $4.89 less across twelve months than paying monthly. AppleCare One is the other route, and the bundle starts at $19.99 a month for buyers who already own several Apple devices.
Both HomeView models share the same $299 price, the same 7-inch Liquid Retina display, and face recognition for up to six people, so the cost of protecting one is the same as the other. The countertop model adds a speaker base, and the wall-mounted model needs a separate mount, which is one more piece to damage during installation.
A single claim leaves AppleCare+ more than $210 ahead
The math favors coverage once anything goes wrong. A year of the yearly plan plus one $39 repair comes to $63.99, while the same repair without coverage costs $279, a gap of $215.01. On the monthly plan the total is $68.88, which still saves $210.12.
Apple’s standard one-year limited warranty covers manufacturing defects. It does not cover accidents like a dropped display or a spilled drink, and those are the cases where the $279 fee applies.
Apple lists one flat fee rather than separate prices for a cracked display or a damaged speaker. That makes the cost easy to predict, and it also means a small problem costs as much to fix as a large one.
Apple pitches HomeView for a kitchen counter, a nightstand, or a side table. Those are all spots where a drop or a spilled drink is a realistic risk, which is the situation the $39 fee is built for.
The fee matches the original HomePod, but the discount to a new unit is smaller
Apple charged the same $279 out-of-warranty fee and $39 AppleCare+ fee for the original HomePod in 2018. That speaker sold for $349, so the repair fee was $70 below the price of a new one. HomeView sells for $299, which cuts that gap to $20 and makes a repair look a lot like buying a second unit.
HomeView ships on Friday, November 13, and both models share the same $39 and $279 fees.
