Install tvOS 17 beta

To install the public beta version, simply go to Settings > System > Software Update, and enable “Get Beta Updates”. This will work as long as your Apple ID is registered with the Apple Beta Software Program.

However, installing a developer beta on an Apple TV is more complicated. You will need:

  • An Apple Developer Account (costs $99/month) to get the configuration profile.
  • The latest version of Xcode.
  • The latest version of Apple Configurator.
  • An Apple TV setup and connected to the same WiFi network as your Mac. Apple TV HD, Apple TV 4K (2017), Apple TV 4K (2021), and Apple TV 4K (2022) are supported.

Once you have these requirements, follow these steps:

  1. Download the developer config profile from the Apple Developer Center downloads section and keep it on your desktop for easy access.
  2. Open Xcode on your Mac and go to Windows > Device & Simulators and keep it open.
  3. On your Apple TV, go to Settings > Remotes and Devices, and click on Remote App and Devices.
  4. Wait for Apple TV to discover your Mac. Once it appears, click on Apple TV in the Xcode Devices & Simulators section that you opened in step 2. You will get a code on your Apple TV, use it to pair Xcode with it.
  5. Open Apple Configurator on your Mac and click on your Apple TV. Drag the profile (from step 1) to the Apple TV icon in Apple Configurator to enroll it for developer beta updates.
  6. Finally, go to Settings > System > Software Update on your Apple TV and click on Update Software to download tvOS 17 developer beta.

That’s it. Once the download and installation process is completed, your Apple TV will reboot into tvOS 17.
