The iPhone 18 Pro will be thicker than the iPhone 17 Pro. According to materials from an Apple supplier breach, the iPhone 18 Pro’s body and camera plateau will grow roughly 2mm, putting overall thickness at around 9.9 to 10.9mm compared to 8.75mm on the current generation; the iPhone 18 Pro Max’s camera plateau alone will measure 11.54mm, up from 11.23mm on the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Leaker Fixed Focus Digital noted the final thickness figure would be “somewhat surprising,” suggesting Apple may not publicly emphasize the increase at launch.

The leak originates from confidential Tata documents posted to the dark web by a ransomware group, including internal supplier lists, component details, and video of iPhone 18 Pro units undergoing drop testing. In those videos, the devices appear noticeably thicker around the camera plateau than the iPhone 17 Pro Max, matching the thickness claims.
The increase serves a dual purpose as Apple is integrating a variable aperture main camera system and larger battery capacity. The variable aperture lens reportedly costs 50% more than the current fixed-aperture design and requires additional space within the camera module; production is ramping up at suppliers including LG Innotek and Sunny Optical. The iPhone 18 Pro Max will gain nearly 10% more battery capacity, reaching 5,567mAh in the U.S., while the standard iPhone 18 Pro battery will grow only modestly to 4,288mAh, less than a 1% gain.
To balance the added bulk with a sense of freshness, the Dynamic Island will shrink by roughly 35% on both Pro models. The phone retains the aluminum alloy mid-frame introduced with the iPhone 17 Pro, abandoning any return to titanium; Apple intends to use aluminum “for a long time to come,” according to supply chain sources. New colors are expected: Dark Cherry, Light Blue, Dark Gray, and Silver.
A Weibo leaker warned that the new color options may be susceptible to paint peeling, echoing complaints from some iPhone 17 Pro units. Whether Apple has resolved the underlying adhesion issue is unclear. The iPhone 18 Pro launches in September 2026, followed by the iPhone Fold launch at an unconfirmed date.
