Renders reveals only iPhone 14 Pro might have more rounded edges

CAD renders of the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro model by Ian Zelbo reveal that the new 6.1-inch Pro model might have more rounded edges than its predecessor model, iPhone 13 Pro. It is speculated that Apple made the edges of the iPhone 14 Pro more curved to accommodate that larger camera module.

Previous reports claim that the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models will feature an upgraded 48MP Wide camera with a 21% larger sensor to capture vivid and detailed photographs which will be housed in a large rear camera array. However, the new renders show that only the new 6.1-inch Pro model will have a slightly different exterior design, and the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max will have the same radii as the iPhone 13 Pro Max model.

iPhone 14 Pro’s new pill+hole display and larger rear camera module inspired the larger corner radii than iPhone 13 Pro

Based on the information provided by leaks and sources, the new renders of the upcoming 6.1-inch Pro model depict a MacRumors notes that it is not the first time, the 6.1-inch Pro models will have more noticeable differences than predecessor models. The publisher states that iPhone 12 Pro was significantly different from the iPhone 13 Pro, whereas, the differences between iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro Max were minor.

The rear camera arrays of the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max broadly matched the corner radius of each device’s frame, but when Apple increased the size of the camera arrays with the ‌iPhone 13 Pro‌ and ‌iPhone 13 Pro‌ Max, neither device matched its corners. While the difference between the ‌iPhone 12 Pro Max‌ and ‌iPhone 13 Pro‌ Max’s camera arrays are minor, the difference between the ‌iPhone 12‌ Pro and ‌iPhone 13 Pro‌ is significant.

Furthermore, it is speculated that the reasons for larger corner radii in the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro model are the larger camera module in the rear and possibly, the redesigned “pill+hole” notch.

It seems plausible that with another increase in size this year, the incongruence between the curves of the camera plateau, lenses, and corners of the stainless steel frame itself became too severe on the ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌, leading Apple to amend the design. The new, larger corner radii still do not exactly match the rounded corners of the rear camera array plateau, but are significantly closer, according to Zelbo.

The ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌’s redesigned display may also have enabled the change. A centered pill and hole-punch shaped front-facing TrueDepth camera array in place of the notch is expected to be among the device’s headline upgrades and it is also rumored to feature 20 percent thinner bezels around the display. It will have been necessary to redesign the display to achieve these changes, so a simultaneous change to the corner radii is feasible.

Recently, tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo wrote that iPhone 14 series will be equipped with an upgraded front camera with improved autofocus and f/1.9 aperture to provide “a better shallow depth-of-field effect for selfie/portrait mode” and enhanced focus for video calls.

Apple is expected to launch the next-generation iPhone 14 series in September and the rumored details give the impression that Apple will offer major updates in the new iPhone series.
