The Tesla app is getting a layout built for bigger screens. Tesla is rolling out a redesigned version for iPad, iPhone Duo, and Android tablets and foldables, which ends years of the iPhone app simply being stretched to fit an iPad.
Tesla designer Alex Guichet announced the rollout on X on October 21, saying the app is now on “the big screens you bring around with you.” In a follow-up, he said the design team rethought many screens across the app to make use of the extra space.
The Tesla App Now Shows a Menu and a Large Vehicle View Side by Side
The new layout splits the screen into two panes. The menu sits on the left and a large 3D view of your car fills the right. The menu lists the same sections as the phone app, along with quick status details like cabin temperature and how much of your driving was on FSD.
- Controls
- Climate
- Location
- Self-Driving
- Summon
- Charging
- Set Schedules
- Security & Drivers
- Safety Score
Opening a section no longer replaces the whole screen. Tap Charging, for example, and its submenu stays on the left while the details open beside it.
The vehicle view is more detailed than the small model at the top of the phone app. It looks a lot like the parked screen inside the car, with a background tint that matches your paint color and reflections on the ground under the car. You can still open the frunk or trunk, lock or unlock the car, and check charging status from it.
Below the car sit quick controls for Flash, Honk, Start, and Vent. A new Customize Controls button makes it easier to change which ones appear. There is also a new Show psi button that puts your tire pressures on the vehicle view, so you no longer have to dig through the Controls menu to check them.
Tesla Energy and Charge Stats Get the Two-Pane Layout Too
Tesla Energy customers get the same two-pane treatment. The Home Status screen shows a 3D house with live readings for solar, Powerwall, home usage, the grid, and a car charging in the garage. Energy, Impact, Virtual Power Plant, and Go Off-Grid are listed in the menu next to it.
Charge Stats shows a full-width map of the Superchargers you have visited, along with total energy charged, total spent, money saved compared with gas, and a monthly breakdown of where you charged. The charts are easier to read at this size.
The iPhone Duo Switches Layouts When You Fold It
The Tesla app supports Apple’s foldable from day one, and the iPhone Duo reaches buyers this week following early iPhone Duo reviews that called it the best foldable yet. Screenshots shared on X by Max Weinbach show the big layout on the iPhone Duo’s inner display, with charging details, Live Camera, and recent dashcam clips on the left and the vehicle view on the right.
Fold the iPhone Duo closed and the outer screen goes back to the familiar phone layout.

The Update Is Rolling Out Slowly Over the Next Week or Two
Tesla is not pushing the new layout to everyone at once. Guichet said the team wants to be confident that every screen looks right on every device, and that more polish is coming in future releases. If your iPad still shows the stretched phone version, check for an update in the App Store and try again in a few days.
Tesla has been steadily adding iPhone-focused features to the app, from Apple Shortcuts integration in 2023 to passkey sign-in with Face ID or Touch ID last month. Guichet said the big-screen layout may take an extra week or two to reach everyone.
