visionOS 26 now available: widgets, spatial browsing, shared experiences

Apple today released visionOS 26, the latest update for Apple Vision Pro, iOS 26, macOS Tahoe 26, iPadOS 26, watchOS 26, and tvOS 26. The software can be installed on all Vision Pro headsets through Settings > General > Software Update. Once started, the headset needs to be removed during installation, with a progress bar visible on the EyeSight display.

visionOS 26 widgets

visionOS 26 expands how users interact with their space, starting with a new class of widgets. These can be placed around the environment and will persist even after restarts. The Widgets app makes it easier to find and add new widgets, while developers can now build depth and dimension into their own using WidgetKit. Spatial Scenes add lifelike depth to 2D photos in apps like Photos and Safari, and developers can use the new API to bring similar experiences into their apps.

Safari gains spatial browsing, designed to minimize distractions while adding support for inline 3D models and Apple Immersive Video playback. Personas have been overhauled with more realistic hair, eyelashes, and movement, while the capture process includes more glasses options and previews before saving.

visionOS 26 Improved Personas

visionOS 26 also emphasizes shared experiences. Two Vision Pro users can now watch a movie together or collaborate in apps like Freeform in the same room. Accessibility expands with Live Recognition, which describes surroundings and objects using on-device machine learning, plus new options like Live Captions in more languages, Braille Access, and Accessibility Reader for improved text readability.

Apple Intelligence continues to grow, with more creative styles in Image Playground, Genmoji improvements, and expanded language support across Writing Tools, Mail, and notifications. Wide field-of-view video is now natively supported, including 180° and 360° content from cameras like GoPro and Insta360. For enterprise, device sharing and new APIs offer more secure and powerful deployments.

Other highlights include a redesigned Control Center with faster access to Guest User and Travel Mode, new backgrounds and polls in Messages, folders for organizing apps, 90Hz hand tracking for smoother gameplay, and support for accessories like PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers. A new Jupiter Environment brings an immersive view of the gas giant’s storms, while Look to Scroll enables navigation using just your eyes.

visionOS 26 is available today as a free update for all Apple Vision Pro headsets.
