Withings Locks Apple Health Sync Behind a Paid Annual Subscription

Withings Apple Health sync now comes with a subscription for new customers. Accounts created on or after October 13, 2026 need Withings+ to send scale, watch and tracker data into the Health app automatically, and the plan costs $99.50 per year in the US.

Anyone who opened a Withings account on or before October 12, 2026 keeps free syncing. Withings told its community the exemption follows the account, not the device, so a new scale or watch bought later changes nothing.

Only accounts created from October 13 pay for automatic sync

The cutoff is the date the account was created, not the date the hardware was bought. Someone who registered years ago and picks up a new Withings scale today still syncs to Apple Health for free. Someone who buys their first Withings device this week has to subscribe for automatic transfers to Apple Health, or to Health Connect on Android.

Withings ties the change to updates to its API and new privacy measures that came with its new AI connector. Withings devices feed more than body weight into Health. Apple’s Health app can build a Sleep Score from Withings sleep tracking, and new accounts now need Withings+ to get that data across automatically.

Manual export and doctor sharing stay free for every Withings user

Every Withings user, subscriber or not, can export their full history as a CSV or PDF, keep importing data from other apps, and share readings with a doctor through HealthLink and PDF reports. None of that sits behind the paywall. These are manual steps, so they do not replace automatic syncing for anyone who wants new readings to land in Apple Health without extra taps.

Withings+ also bundles other features for members:

  • Heart Age, Readiness and Glucose Resilience scores
  • An improved Health Assistant that remembers a member’s health profile and trends over time
  • ECG reviews by qualified physicians through Cardio Check-Up
  • Better-priced access to medical services from Sunrise, Fay and Dune in the US
  • The new Withings AI Connector (MCP), which links a member’s data to the AI assistants they use

New Withings buyers now pay a yearly fee on top of the hardware

For a new customer, the scale, blood pressure monitor or watch is only the upfront cost, since automatic Apple Health sync adds $99.50 each year on top of it. Owners of older accounts are not affected.

The change drew more than 130 comments and 175 likes on Withings’ community forum, with several owners saying they will skip future Withings purchases.

New members can try everything, sync included, during a free trial. If the membership ends, sync pauses and no data is lost, and it resumes as soon as the membership is active again.

Our Take

If you are shopping for a smart scale today, I would price in the subscription before picking Withings and compare it against brands that sync to the Health app without one. Health tracking keeps moving toward memberships, and our Whoop and Apple Health comparison shows how much you still get for free on Apple’s side.
