Apple Sports 4.5 is out with a change to Live Activities and five more soccer competitions. Live Activities in the app now show key game stats during breaks in the action, and the soccer lineup grows with leagues from Brazil, England and Norway plus the UEFA Nations League.
Apple Sports is a free download from the App Store. Apple says the Live Activities change helps fans stay “even closer to the game at a glance,” and it applies across leagues. It is the fourth update since July to expand the soccer lineup.
Live Activities Now Show Key Stats During Breaks in the Action
Live Activities put a running score on the iPhone Lock Screen, so you can follow a game without opening the app. Version 4.5 adds key game stats to that same Live Activity whenever there is a break in the action. Apple has not said which stats appear for each sport.
Live Activities have picked up steady additions for American football in particular. Version 3.3 in September 2025 let upcoming events start a Live Activity at kickoff and added more detailed NFL and college football updates, including timeouts. Version 3.5 followed in November 2025 with a drive chart for NFL and college football games.
Apple Sports Has Added 23 Soccer Competitions Since July
Version 4.5 adds five soccer competitions. Four are domestic leagues and one is a UEFA national team tournament:
- Brazilian Serie B
- English League One
- English League Two
- Norwegian Eliteserien
- UEFA Nations League
English League One and League Two are the third and fourth tiers of English football, below the EFL Championship that is already in the app. Brazilian Serie B is the country’s second division, and the Eliteserien is Norway’s top flight. The UEFA Nations League is a national team competition for European countries.
Apple Sports 4.2 added seven leagues in July, version 4.3 added seven more in August and version 4.4 added four leagues and live tennis draws in September. Counting 4.5, Apple has added 23 soccer competitions since the July 20 release.
Apple Sports Covers US Sports Alongside Its Growing Soccer List
The app tracks the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, WNBA, NWSL and MLS, plus college football and men’s and women’s college basketball. It also follows the PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, F1, NASCAR and men’s and women’s tennis.
You can follow teams, leagues, divisions, brackets and tournaments, and add a Home Screen widget for scores and schedules. Syncing your sports connects the app to Apple TV for live games and to Apple News for stories. Apple Sports is for iPhone only and requires iOS 18.0 or later.
