Apple might announce AirPods 3 and a new Apple Music HiFi service tier as soon as this month, as per a new rumor making the rounds on the Internet. Apple Music already has impeccable sound quality but it is not lossless like the recently announced Spotify HiFi service which delivers CD-quality lossless audio.
Apple Music HiFi would cost the same as standard tier
As per the rumor published by Hits Daily Double, the new Apple Music HiFi (not a confirmed name) will cost $9.99, just like the current regular Apple Music service. Whether this will mean that all Apple Music user accounts will be automatically given HiFi music is not clear from the rumor. Amazon music HD, which also offers high-quality music, costs $5 more than its standard plan, while other music streaming services like Deezer also charge extra for the premium tier. Even though Spotify HiFi was announced a few months ago, its price structure is unclear, as the company only said that users would be able to upgrade their accounts to use the premium service. This means that if Apple keeps the same price as standard Apple Music, it will be the only mainstream music streaming service that provides HiFi music listening in its standard price tier.
The report also mentions that Apple will be announcing its third-generation AirPods in a few weeks, along with the new service. The new AirPods 3 are expected to feature a design similar to AirPods Pro, but without active noise cancellation and replaceable ear tips. It has also been speculated that Apple could cut the price for AirPods 3 to make them more competitive in the face of increasing competition.
