Apple’s September 9 “Awe dropping” event is expected to highlight the iPhone 17 lineup, Apple Watch updates, and new AirPods Pro. But Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has also suggested that Apple could use the stage to introduce refreshed versions of Apple TV, HomePod mini, and AirTag. These devices have not been updated in years and would benefit from meaningful improvements, making them strong candidates for inclusion at the event.
The Apple TV is rumored to be upgraded to the A17 Pro chip, providing the performance needed for Apple Intelligence and the enhanced Siri experience arriving next year. Connectivity will also see an upgrade with an Apple-designed Wi-Fi chip, supporting Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 for faster and more reliable streaming. While a built-in FaceTime camera has been rumored for some time, it remains uncertain whether it will debut in this generation.
The HomePod mini is expected to gain a newer S-series chip with similar Apple Intelligence readiness, along with Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 support. Improved audio quality is said to be part of the update, as well as a new Ultra Wideband chip to enhance communication with nearby Apple devices. Apple has also been testing additional color options like red, giving customers more ways to match the speaker to their homes.
AirTag is on track for its first update since its introduction in 2021. The new version may include up to three times longer tracking range, a redesigned tamper-resistant speaker, and “very low” battery alerts to help users stay ahead of power issues. These upgrades would make AirTag a more dependable and accurate tracking accessory, deepening its integration with the iPhone.
Apple may not announce all three products at once, but the precedent of introducing Apple TV and HomePod mini updates at iPhone events makes their debut next week more likely. AirTag, as an iPhone accessory, also fits naturally into the event. Whether announced on stage or through the Apple Newsroom, updates to these devices would show Apple’s continued commitment to strengthening its ecosystem around the iPhone and expanding smart home and personal tracking capabilities.
