Liquid Glass Too Transparent? Try These 5 Settings

Apple’s Liquid Glass redesign has been one of the most talked-about changes in iOS. While some users love its layered, translucent look, others find it distracting or harder to read. The good news is that you don’t have to live with the default appearance.

Although you can’t turn Liquid Glass off completely, Apple gives you several ways to reduce its visual intensity. Whether you’re running the latest iOS 27 beta or an earlier release, these settings can make the interface easier to read without changing how your iPhone works.

iOS 27make Liquid Glass less transparent

1. Adjust the New Liquid Glass Slider (iOS 27)

The biggest improvement in iOS 27 is a dedicated Liquid Glass slider that lets you fine-tune the transparency effect instead of choosing between preset styles.

To adjust Liquid Glass in iOS 27:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Appearance.
  3. Select Liquid Glass.
  4. Move the slider toward Clear for a more transparent look or toward Tinted for a more opaque appearance.

Unlike previous versions of iOS, you can now choose the exact balance that looks best to you.

2. Turn On Reduce Transparency

If menus, Control Center, or notifications are difficult to read, this Accessibility setting makes one of the biggest differences.

To enable Reduce Transparency:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Accessibility > Display & Text Size.
  3. Turn on Reduce Transparency.

This replaces many translucent interface elements with more solid backgrounds, making text and icons much easier to distinguish.

3. Reduce Bright Visual Effects

Some of Liquid Glass’s lighting effects can make the interface feel overly reflective, especially against colorful wallpapers.

To reduce bright effects:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Accessibility > Display & Text Size.
  3. Enable Reduce Bright Effects.

The difference is subtle, but it helps reduce glare and improves contrast throughout the system.

4. Customize Your Home Screen Icons

The way your icons look also affects how noticeable Liquid Glass feels.

To customize your Home Screen:

  1. Press and hold an empty area of the Home Screen.
  2. Tap Edit.
  3. Choose Customize.
  4. Experiment with Tinted, Dark, or larger icons.

Many users find that tinted or dark icons create better contrast and make the overall interface easier to read than the default clear style.

5. Reduce Motion

Liquid Glass includes subtle animations that create a sense of depth. If those animations feel distracting, you can minimize them.

To enable Reduce Motion:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Accessibility > Motion.
  3. Turn on Reduce Motion.

Animations become less pronounced while navigation remains smooth, helping the interface feel calmer and more consistent.

Which Setting Makes the Biggest Difference?

If you’re using iOS 27, start with the new Liquid Glass slider. It gives you the most direct control over the redesigned interface.

For everyone else, Reduce Transparency remains the single most effective setting. Pairing it with Reduce Bright Effects and a customized Home Screen can dramatically improve readability without sacrificing the overall look of iOS.

Apple continues to refine Liquid Glass throughout the iOS 27 beta cycle, so additional customization options may arrive before the final release this fall.
