The Outsiders Just Got Its Biggest Workout Analysis Upgrade Yet

The Outsiders is getting one of its biggest updates yet, giving runners and cyclists more ways to understand their training after every session. Version 1.7.6 introduces a redesigned workout analysis view, brings Relative Intensity to runners for the first time, and adds a customizable sharing tool for posting workouts to social media.

Rather than simply recording your activity, the latest update focuses on helping you understand how you performed. Whether you’re trying to improve a specific section of a run, compare intervals, or measure effort beyond pace, the new tools provide a much deeper look at every workout.

Workout Analysis Gets Much More Detailed

The biggest change is the replacement of the old Splits section with a new Breakdown view.

Instead of only showing split times, Breakdown combines three different types of workout data into a single screen:

  • Segments, which you manually mark during a workout using a double tap on Apple Watch or the Action button on Apple Watch Ultra.
  • Intervals, which are detected automatically when following structured workouts created in Apple’s Workout app.
  • Splits, including standard distance markers for running, cycling, and swimming.

The Outsiders

Bringing everything together makes it much easier to review exactly where you performed well and where there’s room to improve, without jumping between multiple views.

Relative Intensity Arrives for Runners

One of the most notable additions is Relative Intensity for running.

Unlike pace, which can vary depending on hills, weather, or terrain, Relative Intensity measures how hard a workout was based on your average heart rate compared with your lactate threshold heart rate. The result is a more personalized measure of effort that makes it easier to compare runs, even when conditions change.

The metric has already been available for cyclists using power data, and this update extends the same training insight to runners.

Sharing Workouts Gets a Fresh Look

The Outsiders is also making it easier to share completed workouts.

The new sharing tool lets you customize workout cards by choosing between light, dark, or satellite maps, selecting different backgrounds, or using a transparent layout. You can also decide exactly which workout statistics appear before exporting the image.

The updated design closely matches the clean aesthetic of Gentler Streak, giving workout summaries a polished look that’s better suited for social media.

Smaller Improvements Across the App

Version 1.7.6 also includes several quality-of-life improvements beyond workout analysis.

Body temperature data can now be imported automatically from compatible devices that sync with Apple Health, expanding support beyond Apple Watch. The app’s Personal Goals interface has also been refreshed with a smoother setup experience, while a longstanding graphical glitch affecting the Workouts tab has been fixed.

The update is rolling out on the App Store starting today. You can download the app here.
