Instapaper has launched version 10 of its iPhone and iPad app on July 28, 2026, calling it the biggest update to the read-it-later service in over a decade. The release brings a visual redesign built around Apple’s Liquid Glass aesthetic, new typography options, Home Screen widgets, and a parallel overhaul of its web platform.
The visual changes are the most immediately apparent since Instapaper 10 adopts full Liquid Glass support in Reader, the translucent material Apple introduced with iOS 26 that reflects and refracts its surroundings while dynamically shifting to keep focus on content. The app also introduces Condensed View and new typography and style controls accessible directly from the article list by tapping “…” and then “Appearance.”
New Fonts and Typography
Typography gets meaningful attention in this release, with four new reading fonts added to the app:
- Literata, a serif font designed by Google for Google Play Books
- New York, a serif font designed by Apple for iOS
- Open Sans, a sans-serif font commissioned by Google
- Atkinson Hyperlegible, a sans-serif font developed by the Braille Institute, designed specifically for legibility
The inclusion of Atkinson Hyperlegible stands out. Built from the ground up to be easier to read for people with visual processing differences, it sits alongside more cosmetically motivated choices like New York. The developers were thinking about accessibility as much as aesthetics.
Widgets, iPad, and Syncing
Home Screen widgets are now part of the app, displaying the current article and most recently saved items while acting as a one-tap shortcut to jump back into reading. iPad users get a side-by-side list and menu view in market mode, along with improvements to iPadOS 26 multitasking generally. Both iPhone and iPad users should also notice more reliable background syncing and faster article download times. Folders and Tags can now be sorted by tapping the “…” menu next to the section header.
Web and Android Updates
The team rebuilt the web platform alongside the iOS release, adding a 3-column reader layout and keyboard shortcuts for those reading on larger screens. On Android, Instapaper now supports AI Voices, launching with 17 voices across 8 languages including English, Chinese, French, Italian, Japanese, Hindi, Spanish, and Portuguese, with more to follow.
