The iPhone Duo went on sale today, and a few owners already say the inner screen failed near the hinge. Reddit posts about the affected units describe the same fault, with damage along the hinge and bright lines across the right side of the inner display.
The damage sits in a similar spot on each unit and Apple has not commented yet.
One owner broke the screen about six hours after unboxing
An owner in Australia said they had used the iPhone Duo for roughly six hours and had opened it fewer than 20 times. While showing it to a friend, they felt something give under the screen near the internal hinge. A crack followed as they kept opening it, and the display split along the hinge.
The owner said there were no marks or damage on the inner screen or the outer hinge that would suggest anything got caught. The Apple Store replaced the phone with a brand-new one on the spot.

More units show up in other Reddit posts. One post has a photo of a broken screen, and a comment on it includes a video of yet another. A separate thread has gathered more pictures of affected phones.
Here are the several cases I mentioned earlier

The hinge area is the most complicated part of the iPhone Duo
The iPhone Duo has a 7.6-inch foldable inner display that sits on a hinge built from more than 100 components, designed to support the center of the panel. The inner display uses a scratch-resistant coating and a nano-textured cover layer made from a custom polymer. High-strength glass sits above and below the folding panel, with a titanium plate underneath.
The same hinge lets the phone work as a small tablet, and iPhone Duo tablet mode also works with a keyboard and mouse. The frame is Grade 5 titanium, and the phone carries an IP68 rating. A 5.4-inch outer display covers the phone when it is closed.
A few photos do not show how widespread the problem is
The reports so far come from individual owners posting online, and Apple has not confirmed any of them. A handful of broken screens could point to a small batch of faulty units or to a weakness in how the hinge area is built. The posts do not settle which.
Apple has faced early durability complaints on a new product category before. Some Apple Vision Pro owners reported cracked glass in the middle of the headset, which raised questions about how the glass was holding up.
The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 and is on sale today in more than 70 countries and regions, with 28 more following on October 30.
