Apple has updated its free Apple Invites app for iPhone to version 1.12.1. Hosts can now add guests to an event by hand and mark their RSVP status, and the Home Screen widget picks up an extra large size.
The update arrives two weeks after version 1.12, which added full-resolution Shared Albums and photorealistic Image Playground backgrounds. Apple’s release notes for 1.12.1 also list bug fixes and performance improvements, and the update is available now in the App Store.
Hosts can add guests and set their RSVP status without leaving the app
With version 1.12.1, a host can add a guest to an event manually and mark whether that person is attending. Apple’s release notes say this keeps the guest list accurate even when someone confirms outside the app.
Everyone else still responds the usual way. According to Apple’s launch announcement, guests can RSVP from the app or on the web at icloud.com/invites without an Apple Account or an iCloud+ subscription. Version 1.12 also let guests who need to verify their email tap a link in their inbox instead of typing a code.
The Home Screen countdown widget now comes in an extra large size
The Apple Invites widget counts down to an event from the Home Screen, and the new extra large size gives users another layout to choose from. Apple describes the change as adding more options for the countdown.
The countdown widget first arrived in August 2025, a few months after the app launched.
Creating an event still takes an iCloud+ plan
Hosting remains tied to iCloud+, since creating an event requires a plan with at least 50GB of storage, which costs $0.99 per month, and Apple released the app in February 2025. At launch, Apple pitched it as a way to create custom invitations, collect RSVPs, contribute to Shared Albums and share Apple Music playlists.
Since version 1.12, anyone can join and contribute to a Shared Album, including people without an Apple device. Version 1.10 added emoji reactions and confetti animations in July.
