GM is bringing Apple Wallet car keys to its US lineup. Select 2026 and 2027 Cadillac EVs get support first, and Chevrolet and GMC SUVs follow in December.
GM confirmed the digital key rollout on September 23 and said more models will follow over time. Owners add a version of the physical key to Apple Wallet on an iPhone or Apple Watch, then use it to unlock and drive the vehicle.
The expansion adds to the 13 new vehicle brands already headed to Apple Wallet and follows recent additions such as Great Wall Motor’s Tank SUVs. It also brings the feature to full-size SUVs like the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon.
Cadillac gets Apple Wallet car keys first, with Chevrolet and GMC following in December
The first phase covers the 2025 to 2027 Cadillac Lyriq, the 2026 to 2027 Cadillac Optiq and the 2027 Cadillac Vistiq. GM is rolling it out in phases from September through October, so not every owner will see it on day one.
Owners get a notification in the “What’s New” section of the vehicle’s mobile app once digital key becomes available for their vehicle.
The second phase lands in December and adds these models.
- Chevrolet: 2026 to 2027 Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet Suburban
- GMC: 2026 to 2027 GMC Yukon and GMC Yukon XL
- Cadillac: 2027 Cadillac Escalade, Cadillac Escalade IQ, Escalade IQL and Cadillac Celestiq
GM says the rollout will continue across additional vehicles over time, but it has not named them yet.
Apple Wallet car keys on GM vehicles need an iPhone 11 or newer
Compatible hardware includes iPhone 11 or newer, Apple Watch Series 6 or newer, and the first Apple Watch Ultra or newer. Setup runs through the vehicle’s mobile app. Sign in, sit inside the OnStar-connected vehicle with the physical key fob nearby, and follow the prompts to add the key to Apple Wallet.
After pairing, the vehicle unlocks as the owner approaches and locks when they walk away, using ultra-wideband and Bluetooth. From Apple Wallet, owners can also open the trunk and adjust the climate controls before getting in.
Keys can be shared with up to seven additional devices through AirDrop, Messages, WhatsApp and other apps. The key is built on the Car Connectivity Consortium standard and stored in Apple Wallet the same way payment cards are.
Account owners can remove access at any time, and OnStar can deactivate a key right away if a device is lost or stolen.
