The ChatGPT app for iPhone and iPad now has two Codex widgets for the Home Screen. Codex usage shows how much of your limits remain, and Codex tasks lists your latest Codex tasks without opening the app.
To add either one, open the widget gallery, choose ChatGPT, and tap Add Widget. They join the ChatGPT shortcuts widget that OpenAI added in August, which has launchers for Chat, ChatGPT Work, and Codex Remote. The new pair is aimed at people who already run tasks through Codex in the ChatGPT mobile app, on a Mac or in the cloud.
The Codex Usage Widget Tracks Both the Five-Hour and Weekly Limits
The gallery describes Codex usage as a way to see your remaining Codex usage and when your limits reset. It covers two limits, a five-hour window and a weekly window, and each one shows a percentage left and a reset countdown.
In the gallery preview, the small version stacks the two rows. The five-hour limit reads 72% left and resets in 2 hours, while the weekly limit reads 22% left and resets in 1 day. The medium version puts the two limits side by side under a Usage limits label, with larger numbers.
Those are the same kinds of caps OpenAI brought back for Plus subscribers in August, when it restored the five-hour Codex limit alongside the weekly one. The app has shown usage limits and credit details in its task menu since ChatGPT for iOS 1.2026.181 in July, so the widget moves the limits part of that to the Home Screen.
The Codex Tasks Widget Lists Running Tasks Across Your Mac and the Cloud
Codex tasks shows your latest tasks from all connected hosts, or only the hosts you choose. Each row has the task name, the host it runs on, such as MacBook Pro or Cloud, and the project folder, which is named codex in the preview. A spinner sits beside a running task, and a question mark icon sits beside others.
The list grows with the size of the widget. The gallery previews hold one task, five tasks, and eight tasks, with titles like Polish the task list, Review the latest changes, and Resolve the build failure.
The widget fits alongside the Priority view OpenAI added to the iOS app on September 1, which moves running tasks, unread updates, and tasks awaiting your response to the top of the task list. ChatGPT for iOS 1.2026.258, released on September 23, also added an iPad split view that keeps the task list beside the open task in landscape.
