Dashboard: Smart Home & RTSP, an app that turns an iPad into a control panel for Apple Home, now has a layout for the iPhone Duo. Unfolded in landscape it shows its tiles in pages like an iPad, and folded it uses the same layout as other iPhone models.
Developer Jan Šindelář, who builds the app on his own in the Czech Republic, released the update today, the day before the iPhone Duo goes on sale. The change builds on version 3.2, which made the app pick its layout from size classes and the shape of the window instead of the type of device, so any wide window gets the paged arrangement an iPad gets.
Unfolded, the Tiles Run in Pages Like iPad
Dashboard puts cameras, heating and cooling, lights, blinds, locks, the weather and the family calendar on a single screen. On the unfolded iPhone Duo the tiles sit in pages, and the folded phone keeps the standard iPhone arrangement. Apple says apps built on standard SwiftUI and UIKit components adapt to each display automatically, moving controls to the side and expanding into multiple columns on the inner display.
Version 3.4, released October 5, added a mode picker right on thermostat and air conditioner tiles with Off, Heat, Cool and Automatic, and Home scenes such as “everyone left” can now put the iPad panel to sleep. Version 3.4.1 moves the microphone button on cameras with a speaker into the camera image instead of the top bar, and the app now speaks 22 languages after adding Hungarian, Danish, Norwegian, Romanian, Turkish and Brazilian Portuguese.
RTSP Cameras That Apple Home Cannot Show Play Next to Everything Else
Dashboard also plays standalone RTSP and ONVIF cameras that Apple Home cannot show at all, including Hikvision, Dahua, Reolink, UniFi and Tapo models, through an RTSP client the developer wrote himself. Those cameras work without Apple Home, camera video stays on the home network, and the app has no accounts and no analytics.
On iPad the app also has doorbell, 3D floor plan and solar views, and the unfolded iPhone Duo uses the same paged tile layout as those iPad screens.
Premium Costs $9.99 a Year or $69.99 Once
Dashboard runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later and is free on the App Store, with a limited number of devices. Premium removes the limits, at $9.99 a year with a free week to try it, or $69.99 as a one-time purchase.
