Google Stadia game streaming is finally available on iPhone and iPad through Safari, as a progressive web app. The cloud game streaming service was not able to update its app in the App Store to provide the service that it could provide on Android, due to Apple’s restrictions.
Google had announced last month that it was working on a browser based version of Stadia which will provide its full game streaming experience. Stadia still has its app in the App Store but it can only be used to set up and manage the service for other devices.
Google Stadia game streaming comes to iPhone and iPad
If you already have a Stadia account, you can simply go to its website in Safari and follow the below steps:
- Go to Stadia in Safari (not in Chrome or Firefox)
- Tap on the share icon at the bottom of Safari
- Tap on ‘Add to Home Screen’
- Tap ‘Add’ on the top right
You should see the Stadia icon on your home screen now. When you tap on the icon, it will not open Safari, instead, it will open a fullscreen app-like experience, which makes it easy to use.
With Stadia, you can play games like Cyberpunk 2077, Hitman 3, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Destiny 2, and more. It supports an impressive list of games, including many popular AAA titles. If you were on the fence, and own an iOS device, now is a great time to try the service if it is available in your location.
Microsoft its also working on a similar approach to bring its xCloud game streaming service to iPhone and iPad through Safari. Apple’s App Store policies have left companies with no choice but to use the browser to bring game streaming to iOS devices. Xbox Cloud gaming will be available as a beta for iOS in 2021.
Stadia is free to play, users only need to pay for games. To stream in 4K resolution and get free games every month, a Stadia Pro subscription is available for $10 per month. Stadia works on Android, Chromecast, Windows PC, Mac, and not on iPhone and iPad. If you do not have a PC capable of running Cyberpunk 2077, Stadia is a great way to play it on any screen with the best performance you can get for the game.
