Instagram Debuts Facebook-Like Web Profiles

Instagram has begun rolling out web profiles allowing users to showcase their photos taken with Instagram app on iOS or Android smartphones. The web profiles make it easier for users to discover each others photos and additionally allowing users to follow people, comment & like photos as well as edit their profile easily and directly from the web.

Instagram web profiles feature a selection of user’s recently shared photographs just above thru profile photo (just like Facebook cover photos) and a short biography above a grid showing the most recent photo uploads to give others a snapshot of the photos shared on Instagram. If photos are set to private, then these will be visible only to logged-in Instagram users who follow the user.

However, users won’t be able to upload photos from the web. Like Facebook’s user profile URLs, the Instagram web profiles are viewable at http://instagram.com/[username]. Instagram was acquired by Facebook 8 months ago for $715 million. The Facebook-like web profile launched by Instagram suggests that deeper integration between the social giant Facebook and Instagram may come in near future.  The new web profiles will launch to all Instagram users in the next week or so.
