Apple Releases iOS 26.6.2 with Cellular Update Fix

Apple has released iOS 26.6.2 for iPhone, a minor software update that fixes an issue preventing users from downloading a software update over a cellular connection. The update arrives just ahead of the expected release of iOS 27 and is focused on a single bug fix.

iOS 26.6.2 is available for iPhone 11 and later. There are no new features highlighted in this release, with Apple’s release notes focused entirely on the cellular software update issue.

Apple’s official release notes state:

This update fixes an issue that prevents downloading a software update over a cellular connection.

The fix addresses a problem that could prevent an iPhone from downloading an available software update when connected to a cellular network. This is particularly relevant for users who rely on cellular data when Wi-Fi isn’t available.

Apple is expected to release iOS 27 later this month, following the company’s September iPhone event. Fixing the cellular update issue before the next major iOS release means iPhone users should be able to download future software updates over cellular connections without running into this particular problem.

iOS 26.6.2 does not introduce any major changes to the iOS 26 interface or add new features. Instead, it is a targeted maintenance release addressing the software update download problem.

The update is available now through the Software Update section in the Settings app. To check for it, open Settings > General > Software Update.

iOS 26.6.2 is compatible with iPhone 11 and later. Apple is also releasing iPadOS 26.6.2 for compatible iPad models with the same cellular software update fix. For users who install software updates over cellular data, this is a worthwhile update to install. For everyone else, there are no major user-facing changes to expect from iOS 26.6.2.

Apple released iOS 26.6.1 in August with security fixes, while iOS 26.6 was released in July with bug fixes, security updates, and Spotlight indexing changes ahead of iOS 27. iOS 26.6.2 is therefore a straightforward bug-fix release, but its timing makes the cellular update fix particularly useful with iOS 27 approaching.
