Apple has confirmed that Apple Stores in the US and 13 other countries will have limited iPhone Duo stock for walk-in customers on launch day, Friday, October 23. Apple expects that supply to sell out quickly.
The confirmation came in a statement from an Apple spokesperson to MacRumors. It is the first public word from Apple on walk-in stock, after reports that Apple Store employees were told to expect no iPhone Duo stock for walk-in buyers on launch day.

Apple’s full statement is below:
On Friday morning, our teams look forward to welcoming customers at Apple Stores to experience iPhone Duo and the incredible iPhone line-up for themselves. Apple Stores will have limited iPhone Duo available for walk-in customers, and we’re working hard to get this revolutionary new product into customers’ hands as quickly as possible.
Apple expects the iPhone Duo to sell out quickly on Friday because of the extraordinary pre-order demand it has seen since October 16.

Apple limits walk-in sales in some countries at launch partly to manage crowd sizes and discourage scalping. Resale prices show the concern. A 2TB night sky iPhone Duo that Apple sells for $3,199 has already sold on eBay for $5,000.
Apple’s online store tells customers to check back on Saturday, October 24 for pickup reservations, so it is unclear whether anyone can book a slot on launch day itself.
Online buyers are already waiting. US orders placed after the first few minutes of pre-orders show delivery on January 25 for every configuration.
The iPhone Duo goes on sale Friday, October 23, with 28 more countries and regions following on October 30.
