Apple to launch M2 Mac mini and higher-end MacBook Pro by the end of 2022

According to a new report, Apple will release a new MacBook Pro and Mac mini with its latest M2 chip before the year port. The new Macs will likely come equipped with variations of the M2 chip: Pro and Max.

New M2 Macs coming later this year, and three more to arrive next year

Apple’s second-generation Apple silicon cycle began recently with the 13-inch MacBook Pro and redesigned MacBook Air being the only Macs with the new chip. However, consumers can expect a few more M2 Mac launches before the year ends with variations of the chip.

In the latest edition of his “Power On” newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman discussed the dip in earnings Apple saw in the previous quarter. According to Gurman, the Macfeweregory saw fewer sales than expected because there was a significant period of time between the announcement of the M2 MacBook Pro and MacBook Air and their launch. The MacBook Pro arrived on June 24 while the MacBook Air became available on July 15.

This led to a “significant pause in sales,” and subsequently, less revenue. However, Gurman expects Mac sales will rebound as quickly as in the next quarter saying that the “problems in the most recent period were probably more of a blip than the start of a downward trend.”

M2 MacBook Air - Apple

Based on Gurman’s previous reports, we knew that Apple is on dropping at least four M2 Macs during the cycle of the latest processor. The tech giant is also going to debut new variations of the M2 chip: Pro, Ultra, Max, and Extreme.

The report adds that the tech giant will see more momentum from the launch of new Mac minis and high-end MacBook Pros later this year. He also revealed that some of next year’s releases include a new Mac Pro, iMac, and 15-inch MacBook Air.

On the Mac Pro, Gurman recently revealed that Apple had an M1 Mac Pro ready to ship months ago with a variant of the M1 chip. However, it ultimately decided to hold tor to develop a Pro variant with the powerful “‌M2‌ Extreme” chip. The Cupertino tech giant is expected to preview the new chip and Mac later this year but it will hit the stores in early 2023.

  1. The new Mac Mini with M2 Pro chip delivers great performance that makes us wonder if Apple might continue with Mac Studio and instead only offer at the higher end the Mac Pro with M2 Ultra chip. Mac Mini with M2 Pro chip delivers awesome speeds and power according to the available Geekbench results and other benchmarks. If you need a tough computer that has powerful performance and speed within reasonable budget this might be the one. With M2 Pro Mac Mini Apple has seriously cannibalized its more medium end product – Mac Studio. Time will demonstrate how these Mac Minis perform for gaming, but I would have preferred to see 64 GB Ram version. Currently Mac Studio with M1 Ultra is the perfect alternative for gamers for example as it is able to deliver above 100 FPS gaming experience. Of course, the RTX3090 is faster than m1ultra and wins gaming category, however whether Mac Mini with M2 pro or new Macbook Pro can offer better gaming experience remains to be seen.
