New Apple Silicon MacBook Pro concept natively runs iOS apps

The new MacBook Pro models on Apple Silicon are expected to launch on November 10 at the ‘One more thing’ online event. Based on Apple’s description of the first-generation Apple Silicon Mac and industry reports, a YouTube channel ZONEofTECH has shared its concept design of the upcoming ARM-based MacBook Pro.

The upcoming event is speculated to be a MacBook launch centered because of the exclusive AR logo of the one more thing event which is an Apple trademark opening and closing like a MacBook. In addition, three MacBook models were discovered in the macOS Big Sur 11.0.1 version. Besides, the company also gave an end of 2020 time frame for the release of the next generation of Mac on Apple Silicon, marking their revolutionary transition from Intel Core processor to custom made processing chip.

Concept ARM-MacBook Pro will run iOS Apps Natively

Daniel of @ZONEofTECH has shared the details of the expected Macbook models. Based on industry reports and leaks, he believes that Apple will release three new MacBook Pro models on November 10:

  • 16-inch MacBook Pro
  • 13-inch MacBook Pro
  • 12-inch MacBook.

However, the 16-inch Pro model will still run on an Intel Core processor and AMD GPU because Apple has not yet developed a custom SoC for it. The 13-inch and 12-inch MacBook models will run on Apple Silicon and the devices will receive major updates in performance, battery life, software, and design.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro and 12-inch MacBook will deliver 4x enhanced performance with Apple’s SoC (CPU). However, the maximum performance will only apply to native ARM apps. The leaked benchmark scores of the Mac Mini Development Kit in August show that the third-party apps ran much slower on Apple Silicon. For a better understanding of the major performance boost on Apple Silicon, the YouTuber compared the download speed of MacBook on Inter chip with the 2020 iPad Pad on a custom chip. The iPad exported a 4K video in 2 minutes, which the Intel-based MacBook took 4 hours to export.

The second major update will be a boost in the battery life of the ARM-based MacBook models. They are rumored to give between 15 to 25 hours of battery. Apple has designed the new macOS Big Sur to optimize the performance of the new Apple Silicon Mac and with a unified architecture, Apple will now deliver a unified architecture for iOS, iPadOS and macOS users. Daniel claims that the software update on custom SoC will allow users to run iOS apps on Mac directly.

As there are conflicting reports on the design of the models, the YouTuber believes that the Cupertino tech giant will redesign the MacBook variants because it is changing the internal layout of the machines. He expects them to have iPad Pro like flat edges in a metallic body and a larger display with thinner bezels.

Quoting another leaker, @komiya, he gave additional details of the 12-inch MacBook 2020 that it will run on A14X chip, will have 8GB and16GB RAM, 256GB, 512 GB and 1TB storage space, Retina display, 15-20 hours of battery life, 720p Facetime HD camera, Single USB-C port and 2 pounds in weight. More interestingly, he also reported that the much-criticized buttery fly keyboard (4th) will be used in the small MacBook.
