Pico Cam Now Slides Instant Photos Out of the iPhone Duo

pico cam, the instant-style camera app built around playful photo reveals, now supports the iPhone Duo. On Apple’s foldable, each new shot slides out of the outer display like a Polaroid print.

Developer Soon Tiac Ching announced the update in a post on X on October 22, a day before the iPhone Duo reached customers. The post describes the result as a Polaroid camera that shoots pics out the back, and says the update is out now. The app launched in June with a Dynamic Island reveal for every photo, and the iPhone Duo version moves that idea to a new screen.

In the developer’s demo, the iPhone Duo sits closed with a red pico cam screen on the outer display. A slot runs across the top of that screen, and the photo card slides out of it, white border and all. It is the same trick the Dynamic Island performs on other iPhones, adapted to the foldable.

The outer display is the most interesting part of the iPhone Duo for a camera app. Apple’s foldable pairs a 5.4-inch outer display with a 7.6-inch inner display, and Duo Preview puts a live camera preview on the outer screen while the 48MP rear cameras take the shot. A camera app that cares about how a photo appears has far more room to work with there than it does around a cutout.

The demo also shows the pico cam gallery on the iPhone Duo in landscape and fully unfolded. Photo cards sit in a grid on a dark purple background, with the pico cam logo, a settings button and a camera shortcut across the top in landscape. Unfolded, the same grid fills the taller inner display.

Shareshot, Delta and Gentler Streak have all added iPhone Duo support in recent days as well. Shareshot also added outer screen frames for screenshots, so the second display is already getting app-specific treatment.

pico cam has added zoom, stickers and Apple Wallet support since launch

Updates since June have added zoom from 0.5x to 5x, stickers, new Marker tool colors for drawing on photos, and an option to add favorite pics to Apple Wallet. Camera Control on iPhone 16 and later launches the app and controls zoom. The app has four filters: PICO, B&W, MILK and POP.

pico cam is a free download from the App Store with in-app purchases. A pico cam+ subscription costs $1.99 a week or $19.99 a year, and the listing also shows lifetime options at $29.99 and $22.99. No account is required, and photos stay on the device unless you share or save them. The app requires iOS 18.0 or later, weighs 25.6 MB and is available in 16 languages.
