Siri Recaps Is Apple’s New AI Feature That Summarizes Your Entire Day

Apple is reportedly adding a new AI feature called Recaps to the Siri app, and it does something no Apple Watch feature has done before: it summarizes your entire day, conversations included, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

What Siri Recaps Actually Does

Recaps lives inside the Siri app and is expected to debut alongside the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. The feature analyzes what happened during your day and hands you back a summary, including conversations you had.

Gurman reports it can run in three ways:

  • All day, continuously in the background
  • On demand, whenever you ask for it
  • Triggered automatically when you arrive at certain places

That last option is the most interesting part. A location-triggered recap means Siri could summarize a meeting the moment you leave the office, or catch you up on a conversation as soon as you walk out of a restaurant.

Apple Is Leaning Hard Into Privacy

The detail that matters most for anyone skeptical of an always-listening AI feature: Recaps will not display a transcript, and it will not record or store audio.

That’s a deliberate design choice, and it tells you where Apple’s head is at with this generation of Siri AI. Rather than storing raw audio the way a voice memo app would, the system appears to process and summarize on the fly, then discard the source material. No transcript means no searchable log of your conversations sitting on your device or in iCloud.

Whether that processing happens entirely on-device or leans on Apple’s cloud AI infrastructure hasn’t been confirmed. Given Apple’s Private Cloud Compute approach with other Apple Intelligence features, expect Recaps to follow the same playbook: on-device where possible, encrypted cloud processing when the task needs more horsepower.

Why It’s Tied to the Watch

Pairing Recaps with the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 makes sense on a hardware level. A watch is already on your wrist picking up ambient audio for things like fall detection and Siri requests, so extending that always-present microphone access into a day-summary feature is a logical next step rather than a new capability being bolted on.

The Ultra 4 is also said to be getting improved battery life, which matters if Recaps is running passively in the background all day rather than only when you invoke it.

When We’ll Know For Sure

Apple is holding its “Surprise and Shine” event on September 9, where the Apple Watch Series 12, Ultra 4, and the new iPhone lineup are all expected to be announced. If Gurman’s reporting holds up, Recaps should be part of the keynote, alongside the broader Siri AI overhaul that’s been the centerpiece of Apple’s software story this year.

We’ll update this piece once Apple confirms the feature and shares exactly how it handles processing and data retention.
