Apple launches new Siri Remote with USB-C port, charging cable sold separately

Today, the Cupertino tech giant has unveiled a new Siri remote with USB-C charging port, along with the next-generation Apple TV 4K with a powerful A15 Bionic chip, HDR10+, and more.

In 2021, Apple launched a completely redesigned Siri Remote at the Spring Loaded event which featured a power button and replaced the fragile glass trackpad of the older model with an easy-to-use touch-enabled dial in an all-aluminum casing for durability. It was thinner than its predecessor for better grip.

Now, the tech giant has upgraded the 2022 Siri Remote with USB-C charging port.

USB-C Siri Remote is available for $59 without a charging cable

According to Apple, the new Siri Remote features the same design as the 2021 model but adopts a new USB-C charging port. As it is compatible with all Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD models, users can purchase it separately for $59. The 2022 Siri Remote is included with the new 2022 Apple TV 4K.

The Siri Remote has the same beloved design and functionality as the previous generation, and adopts USB-C for charging. It is included with the new Apple TV 4K, or can be purchased separately for $59 (US) starting today, and is compatible with all generations of Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD.

However, the USB-C charging cable is not included with the 2022 Apple TV 4K and the Siri Remote purchases separately. Users will have to purchase a charging cable for $19 from Apple or a third party if they do not have one.

In addition to consumers requesting Apple to switch to USB-C ports in iPhones and other products, regulators are also pushing the tech giant to adopt USB-C ports for environmental reasons. A common charging port in portable electronic devices would help in reducing electronic waste. Maybe a USB-C iPhone is coming soon.
