Apple seeds tvOS 15.1 release candidate to developers

Apple has released tvOS 15.1 release candidate to developers. The first beta was released a day after tvOS 15 was released to the public with Spatial Audio support for AirPods, HomePod speaker support, Fitness+ updates, redesigned video player, and a new “Shared with You” section in the TV app.

September 28: tvOS 15.1 beta 2 is now available to developers. Apple has not shared any release notes yet.

What’s new in tvOS 15.1 beta 1?

Apple has only posted the following known issue for VoiceOver in its release notes for tvOS 15.1 beta 1. The release notes do not mention any bug fixes or new features.

Although not mentioned in the release notes, Apple has re-enabled SharePlay in this update, which can be used to watch content with friends over FaceTime calls. This feature was delayed by Apple for a launch later this year so it seems that the company has started testing it again with developers.

tvOS 15

tvOS 15 was a massive update and included new features such as Spatial Audio support for AirPods Pro and AirPods Max, stereo pairing with HomePod mini, “Hey Siri” command support to control Apple TV from other devices, and “Shared with You” support to highlight content shared with you via messages.

Upgrade Apple TV to tvOS 15.1 RC

Upgrading Apple TV to tvOS 15.1 is not a simple process. It requires using Xcode and connecting the Apple TV to a Mac. It would be far easier to install tvOS 15.1 public beta, which should be available soon via Apple’s public beta software program.
