The tvOS 27.2 screen saver menu adds a Shuffle option that rotates the Apple TV 4K through its screen savers on its own. The TV no longer stays on one category until you change it by hand.
Leaker pdfu shared a screenshot of the new menu on X on October 20 and says tvOS 27.2 also lets you set up the Memories & Slideshows and Portraits screen savers from an iPhone or iPad without sharing your whole photo library. Apple describes the same features for the new Apple TV 4K but has not said which tvOS version carries them.
Shuffle sits at the top of the tvOS 27.2 screen saver menu
The Current Selection menu lists Shuffle first, with a checkmark, followed by the existing options:
- Shuffle (selected)
- Aerials
- Memories & Slideshows, with a Set Up button
- Portraits, with a Set Up button
- Snoopy
- Shuffle through available Screen Savers throughout the day.
You reach the menu in Settings, then Screen Saver, then Current Selection. Until now you picked one category there and the Apple TV 4K stayed on it. While a screen saver is playing, you can swipe up on the remote and pick a category on the Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) or later.
tvOS 27.2 allows you to shuffle through available Screen Savers throughout the day.
You can also set up Memories & Slideshows or Portraits screen savers on iPhone or iPad without sharing your whole library.
The features were announced in the Apple TV 4K press release. https://t.co/1VNsCBzymi

Memories & Slideshows and Portraits can be set up from an iPhone or iPad
Both photo screen savers have a Set Up button next to them. Setup runs from an iPhone or iPad, where you choose which iCloud photos appear on the TV. The rest of your library stays off the screen.
Memories & Slideshows draws from your iCloud Photo Library and plays Memories or albums from the Photos app. Portraits shows clocks built around your photos, and it needs an Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) or later.
Aerials plays aerial footage from around the world, including underwater locations. Snoopy shows Snoopy and Woodstock moving across the screen and also needs an Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) or later.
tvOS 27.2 is in release candidate while the new Apple TV 4K ships November 13
Apple seeded the tvOS 27.2 release candidate to developers on October 19, and Apple has not given a release date for the final update. Siri AI is also a beta in tvOS 27.2 and requires an iPhone or iPad with Apple Intelligence turned on.
Pdfu also found hidden audio controls for the Snoopy screen saver in tvOS 27 code in September. None of the Snoopy content packages had audio at the time.
The new Apple TV 4K has an A19 chip and costs $299 in the US. Pre-orders opened October 13, and in-store availability starts Friday, November 13.
