Apple has finally published the full release notes for tvOS 27, nearly two weeks after the software update was released. The notes confirm several changes for Apple TV, including AutoMix and Hi-Res Lossless in Apple Music, video podcasts, improved AirPlay performance, Dynamic Text and new controls for blocking individual apps.
tvOS 27 was released on September 14, but Apple TV does not display detailed release notes in the Settings app. Apple instead maintains a support document with the changes included in tvOS updates, which has now been updated with the complete tvOS 27 feature list.
Apple Music Gets AutoMix And Hi-Res Lossless
Apple Music gets two major additions with tvOS 27.
Hi-Res Lossless audio support provides a studio-quality listening experience on compatible setups. AutoMix can also transition from one song to the next using time stretching and beatmatching, creating a continuous playback experience.
Podcasts Adds Video Support
The redesigned Podcasts app now supports video podcasts on Apple TV. This brings video versions of supported shows to the TV alongside the existing podcast experience.
AirPlay Gets Performance Improvements
tvOS 27 also improves AirPlay performance when sharing content from other Apple devices.
Apple says the changes deliver faster and more responsive connections when sharing photos, videos and music from an iPhone, iPad or Mac to Apple TV.
New Options For Captions And Text
Apple has added support for transcribed audio, which can help users follow content when standard captions or subtitles are not available.
Dynamic Text is also available in Accessibility settings. It lets users set their preferred text size across supported apps.
Users Can Block Individual Apps
Another new option in tvOS 27 lets users block specific apps.
The controls are available in Settings and can prevent users from launching selected apps on the Apple TV.
Bug Fixes And Security Updates
Apple also says tvOS 27 includes bug fixes and security updates for Apple TV 4K.
The update is compatible with Apple TV 4K models from the second generation onward. The first-generation Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD are not supported by tvOS 27.
