Apple Design Award 2020 winners revealed

Apple usually announces winners of the Design Awards at WWDC event every year. However, since the conference took place virtually this year, Apple has unveiled the winners of the Apple Design Awards 2020 via a press release.

This year’s Design Awards honored the developers of eight different games and apps categories for their innovative and remarkable designs. Here is a complete list of all the winners of Design Awards 2020.

Darkroom

Darkroom is an easy to use photo and video editor for everyday and professional tasks. The app offers excellent performance with an intuitive interface. Darkroom has integrated Apple’s technologies into the app for better functionality like photo and camera APIs, Home Screen quick actions, contextual menus, and haptics to offer an effortless experience for users.

 

Looom

An iPad app, Looom is used to create drawn animations. With Apple Pencil support, it has a fun and creative interface for users to take up creative projects. Looom app also supports Dark Mode to give comfort to user’s eyes.

Shapr 3D

CAD editor Shapr 3D allows technical designers to create 3D models. The app uses ARKit, drag and drop, and will soon be able to support the LiDAR Scanner later to generate an accurate 2D floor plan and 3D model of objects, rooms, and more.

StaffPad

This app is designed to convert handwritten musical notations into digital sheet music. StaffPad uses Apple technologies like Apple Pencil, drag and drop, and Core ML to give users an easy to use tool to compose music digitally.

Sayonara Wild Hearts

Already dubbed by Apple as one of the best games of 2019, Sayonara Wild Hearts won a Design Award for its vibrant landscapes and mesmerizing visuals. The game uses technologies like Metal, Game Center, spatial audio, and game controller

Sky: Children of the Light

Sky: Children of the Light is a social quest game with a stunning design. The team behind the game used Apple technologies including a custom Metal engine, haptics, Game Center, and spatial audio to deliver an entertaining and adventurous gameplay.

Song of Bloom

Song of Bloom, is a game with a nonlinear narrative packed with clever puzzles. The art style changes rapidly as players progress in the game. Apple says, “Song of Bloom” delivers an innovative, handcrafted gameplay experience with great design.

Where Cards Fall

Where Cards Fall is an adventure game in which players build houses of cards to bring memories to life. The game’s unique art style, puzzles, and hypnotic audio were amplified for users by using technologies including Metal, haptics, Game Center, and iCloud.

Till date, the Design Awards have given more than 250 developers recognition for their innovative apps and game designs over the past 20 years. These Awards have set higher standards for other aspiring developers in terms of interface design, storytelling, and innovation.
