Apple’s next entry-level iPad could close one of the biggest gaps between it and newer iPad models. Code found by researchers points to an A19 chip and 8GB of RAM, suggesting the 12th-generation iPad could finally support Apple Intelligence.
The rumored tablet could also bring faster cellular and wireless connectivity while keeping its place as Apple’s lowest-cost iPad. Apple has not announced the device or confirmed its launch date, but current reports point to spring 2027.
A19 And 8GB RAM Meet Apple Intelligence Requirements
The Apple Intelligence support is tied to two key hardware requirements: a compatible Apple silicon chip and enough memory to run the features locally. The code points to an A19 chip and 8GB of RAM for the next entry-level iPad.
The A19 is capable of running Apple Intelligence, while 8GB of RAM meets Apple’s minimum memory requirement. That combination would allow the entry-level iPad to support Apple Intelligence features, including the newer Siri experience.
This would be a significant change for Apple’s cheapest iPad, which currently lacks Apple Intelligence support.
New Modem And Wireless Chip
The hardware changes may not stop with the processor. Apple’s code also references a C1X modem, which supports sub-6GHz 5G connectivity.
An N1 networking chip is also mentioned. It could bring Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread support to the new iPad, giving Apple’s entry-level tablet newer wireless capabilities.
Possible Spring 2027 Launch
Apple has not confirmed when the next entry-level iPad will launch or how much it will cost. Current reports point to a spring 2027 release.
The tablet is expected to start at around $449, matching the current entry-level iPad. If that price remains unchanged, the new model could add Apple Intelligence, a faster chip and newer connectivity while staying within Apple’s existing entry-level pricing.
