iOS 27 Parental Controls Get A New Apple Video

Apple has released a new video showing how the parental controls introduced with iOS 27 work. The update gives parents more control over apps, websites, communication, screen time and the content children can access.

The new controls are built around Child Accounts and Screen Time, with features such as Ask to Buy, Ask to Browse, Communication Safety and customizable time limits. Apple says the setup is also simpler than before.

Parents Can Control Apps And Websites

iOS 27 lets parents choose which types of apps their children can access. Ask to Buy also allows children to request apps and games before they are downloaded.

Ask to Browse adds similar controls for Safari. Parents can choose which websites their children can visit and block access to sites they do not want them to open.

Communication Controls Cover Calls And Messages

Parents can also control who their children can call and message. Communication Safety in Messages and FaceTime can detect and block images and videos containing nudity or violence.

These controls are part of Apple’s wider set of child safety features, with settings managed through the family’s Screen Time controls.

Screen Time Can Follow A Schedule

Time Allowances and Schedules give parents more control over when specific apps and activities are available. Limits can be set by day, hour and activity, including restrictions during school hours.

Redesigned Screen Time

iOS 27 also adds one-tap controls for pausing access completely. Parents can use them during situations such as family meals, while unlimited screen time can be allowed when restrictions are not needed.

Every Family Device Needs The Latest Software

Apple’s updated parental controls became available with iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 on September 14. The company requires every device in a Family Sharing group to be updated before the new Screen Time controls can work properly.

This means an older iPhone, iPad or Mac in the same family group need to be updated before parents can use the new controls.
