Apple announces iTunes U downloads top 300 million

Apple has just announced that downloads of Apple iTunes U service have exceeded 300million. This big figure has been achieved in only three years and it makes it one of the world’s most popular online educational catalogs.

iTunes U makes it easy for people to discover and learn with content from many of the world’s top institutions,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of Internet Services. “With such a wide selection of educational material, we’re providing iTunes users with an incredible way to learn on their computer, iPhone, iPod or iPad.

800 universities around the globe are using the iTunes U service and are getting educational content publically or privately. From these 800 universities, about half distribute their content publicly through the iTunes Store.

Some of the big universities which are using iTunes U include Harvard, MIT, Cambridge, Oxford, University of Melbourne and Universite de Montreal. iTunes U gives everybody a chance to experience university courses, lab demonstrations, sports highlights, campus tours and special lectures. All the iTunes U content is free to download and iTunes U now hosts over 350,000 audio and video files.
