Apple has announced Apple Home Collection, a lineup of smart home accessories developed with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. The range includes four LG cameras, including a video doorbell, the LG Smart Deadbolt Lock, a thermostat from each company, and a temperature sensor from each company. All accessories are managed through the Apple Home app.
Each accessory pairs with an iPhone with a single tap, similar to setting up a HomePod, without requiring a separate app or account. The accessories will go on sale in December through Apple Store locations, the Apple Store app, and Apple’s online store.
The LG Cameras Store Video in iCloud+ With No Separate Subscription
The cameras work with a home hub such as Apple HomeView, HomePod, HomePod mini or Apple TV 4K. Each one records up to 2.5K video and recognizes people, familiar faces, pets, vehicles and packages. The four models are built for different spots.
- LG Video Doorbell Wired has a 2.5K front camera for visitors and a full HD bottom camera for packages, plus a built-in spotlight and a chime that plays through HomeView, HomePod and HomePod mini.
- LG Floodlight Cam has adaptive dual floodlights that switch on when it detects motion, along with low-light color night vision.
- LG Outdoor Cam Plug-In also has low-light color night vision and can be angled for flexible coverage with self-installation.
- LG Indoor Cam Plug-In tilts up to show the room when an owner checks in, then tilts back down to stop monitoring as soon as the first member of the household gets home.
Video history lives in the owner’s iCloud+ plan for 10 days, so there is no separate camera subscription. The 50GB plan covers one camera, the 200GB plan covers up to five, and the 2TB plan covers an unlimited number.
On eligible plans, Apple Intelligence adds automatic video descriptions and lets owners search footage in plain language. Built-in storage keeps the cameras recording when Wi-Fi goes down. Apple says footage is processed locally on the home hub or in Private Cloud Compute, stays end-to-end encrypted, and cannot be read by LG Electronics, Schneider Electric or Apple.
The LG Smart Deadbolt Lock Opens the Door as an iPhone Approaches
The LG Smart Deadbolt Lock uses Ultra Wideband to tell how close the user is to the door. With a home key on a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch, the door unlocks automatically as they walk up, with no tapping required.
Owners can also tap an iPhone or Apple Watch to unlock, use the built-in PIN pad, or fall back on a hidden backup key slot. The lock senses when the door is opened, closed or tampered with, and it alerts the user if the door is open even while the bolt is locked. Guest access can be shared through the Home app for a dog walker, house sitter or visiting family member.
Paired with the LG Video Doorbell Wired, the Home app shows who is at the door and lets the user speak to the visitor and unlock the door from a single view, or by asking Siri. The lock is Matter compatible and supports Aliro. It works locally, so core access functions keep running without an internet connection.
The Thermostats Adjust on Their Own and Siri Scenes Control Every Accessory
Buyers can choose between the LG Smart Thermostat and the Schneider Home Smart Thermostat. Adaptive Temperature in the Home app uses on-device intelligence from iPhone to adjust heating and cooling based on whether someone is home, winding down at night or away, so no manual schedule is needed.
In the contiguous US, Clean Energy Guidance can shift heating and cooling to cleaner, lower-cost periods for users on a compatible utility plan. The Home app also shows usage insights over time, including peak and off-peak rate information.
The thermostats read temperature and humidity across rooms through the LG Temperature Sensor and the Schneider Home Room Sensor, or through the sensors already built into HomeView, HomePod and HomePod mini. Both thermostats and both sensors are Matter compatible and DIY friendly. They work with a broad range of HVAC systems, and on-device wire detection helps with installation.
Every product supports Thread, so it stays connected if Wi-Fi drops, and each one updates its network credentials automatically when the home Wi-Fi changes. All of them respond to Siri. A single “Good Morning” scene can adjust the thermostat, tilt the LG Indoor Cam Plug-In down while someone gets ready and start music on HomePod. When the last person leaves for work, the thermostat adjusts for an empty home, the door locks and the cameras start monitoring again.
