Apple’s most affordable smartwatch is about to get a refresh. According to a credible last-minute leak, the Apple Watch SE 3 will be unveiled alongside the Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 3 during Apple’s “Awe dropping” event on September 9.
The new model will arrive three years after the Apple Watch SE 2 and will continue to serve as the company’s entry-level option in the lineup. Rumors around this device have been relatively quiet, but processor identifiers posted by a private X account with a proven track record point to all three new Apple Watches using the S11 chip. This would place the SE 3 on par with Apple’s latest flagship wearables in terms of processing power, a rare move for Apple’s budget model.
Beyond the chipset, expectations remain more speculative. Some early reports hinted at a switch from aluminum to plastic, drawing comparisons to the iPhone 5c, but that design option was reportedly scrapped. Apple is thought to have decided against it after testing revealed no real cost savings and a less premium look. Instead, the SE 3 is expected to stick with the familiar aluminum casing. Display changes are also possible, with leaks suggesting slightly larger panels similar to those introduced with Apple Watch Series 7.
Pricing is where the Apple Watch SE 3 could make the biggest impact. Industry chatter points to Apple targeting a starting price closer to $199, putting it in direct competition with Samsung’s Galaxy Watch FE. If true, that would make the SE 3 more affordable than the current SE 2, which starts at $249, and would cement it as the most accessible Apple Watch yet.

The SE 2 skipped ECG, sleep apnea alerts, and Blood Oxygen monitoring, which were reserved for the higher-end models. With the SE 3, Apple could choose to keep the distinction clear or bring more flagship features to the budget tier, which would be a welcome addition for users looking for affordable yet capable health tracking.
