New images give us first look at Apple’s MagSafe Battery Pack for iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro

Last week, Apple quietly introduced its new $99 MagSafe Battery Pack for iPhone 12 line-up on its website. The MagSafe Battery Pack, which is only available in white, attaches magnetically to all iPhone 12 models, ranging from mini to Pro Max to provide additional battery charge.

Now that the tech giant’s new MagSafe Battery Pack has started becoming available in select Apple Stores and has finally landed in the hands of consumers, one Redditor recently shared the first real-world images of the product.

According to Redditor u/stevnrussell, the battery pack is made from smooth hard plastic, not silicone like a ton of consumers had expected. The user also says the MagSafe magnets are very strong nothing they could see “where this would be an issue with leather cases & the circular imprint.” As a bonus, the battery pack looks great with Apple’s white silicone case!

As per the shared images, the battery pack looks pretty bulky. However, it is not any thicker than an iPhone with a case on. Additionally, when compared to the Mophie battery pack for iPhone 12, the Redditor said the “smoothness of” Apple’s MagSafe Battery Pack “feels a little better in the hands. Combine that with the rounded edges and it is just a bit easier to hold.”

Since Apple has not shared any side-in images or dimensions for the new battery pack, these recent images will be a huge help for consumers who are on the fence about wanting to purchase the $99 product. The MagSafe Battery Pack itself charges using a 15W charger and a Lighting cable. If a 20W charger is used, the battery pack can also charge the attached iPhone 12 wirelessly. Though Apple has not specified the battery capacity of the product, one of the photos of the case shows that it has a battery capacity of 1,460mAh.

To use the new MagSafe Battery Pack for iPhone 12, Apple says users need iOS 14.7 or later. Just in time, iOS 14.7 and iPadOS 14.7 were released today for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch with support for the recently announced MagSafe Battery Pack.
