Check if your Windows PC supports Intel WiDi

Intel WiDi is the company’s wireless streaming technology for Windows PCs which allows AirPlay like functionality. User WiDi, users can stream video, audio, photos or just mirror or extend their display to any compatible receivers. Compatible devices include any recent TVs, dongles (such as Microsoft’s Wireless Display Adapter) or projectors.

Check if your Windows PC supports Intel WiDi

Not every computer supports Intel WiDi, despite having Intel processors, graphics and wireless chipsets. For example, Windows 10 on my 2012 MacBook Air does not support Intel WiDi or Miracast. Intel WiDi (3.5+)also works with Miracast so if you have a compatible device for either, you can stream content to it.

There are a few ways to check if your PC will support Intel WiDi. First of all, you should have at least Windows 7, 8 or 10. It will not work with older Windows versions. Then try any of the following methods:

Does you PC support Miracast?

Follow our guide here which gets you to check your DirectX diagnostics tool to confirm if Miracast is supported. If it is, Intel WiDi will most likely work. Of course, this depends on whether it’s version 3.5 and above.

Check PC specifications

Intel WiDi works on the following processors as minimum requirement:

  • 2nd generation Intel Core i3/i5/i7 Mobile Processor
  • 3rd Generation Intel Core i3/i5/i7 Mobile and Desktop Processor
  • 4th Generation Intel Core i3/i5/i7 Mobile and Desktop Processor
  • 5th Generation Intel Core i3/i5/i7 Mobile and Desktop Processor

A list of supported graphics and wireless adapters is here. At least one component from each category is required to make the combination compatible with Intel WiDi.

Download the Intel WiDi update tool

Download, install and run the Intel WiDi update tool, available here. Once you open the too, it will detect the settings and if needed, download the required software or drivers. If your system is not compatible, it will let you know.

In case you run into any issues, or you are still unable to determine compatibility, post your comment in the section below and I would be happy to help.
