iPhones still running iOS 26 now show iOS 27.0.1 as the main option in Settings > General > Software Update. iOS 26.7.1 is still offered, but it sits below the larger iOS 27 card, so it is easy to miss.
A before and after screenshot from Beta Profiles shows the swap on an iPhone running iOS 26.3. Before, iOS 26.7 held the main card and “Upgrade to iOS 27” sat under “Also Available.” After, the main card is iOS 27.0.1 and iOS 26.7.1 has moved down to that section. The post adds that Apple did not start recommending the iOS 18 to iOS 26 upgrade last year until iOS 26.1 arrived.
iOS 27 is now being pushed to iOS 26 users, while iOS 26 updates are becoming less prominent.
Last year, Apple only started recommending the iOS 18 to iOS 26 upgrade after iOS 26.1 came out. https://t.co/ujBxWHynSz

iOS 26.7.1 is still one scroll away under Also Available
The iOS 27.0.1 card is the large one at the top, listed at 6.5 GB, with Update Now and Update Tonight buttons right under the description. Nothing installs on its own. A quick tap on that card is all it takes to start the move to iOS 27, though.
Anyone who wants to stay on iOS 26 should scroll down and tap iOS 26.7.1 in the “Also Available” list instead. The layout change decides which update people see first, not which one their iPhone ends up running.
Both updates support the same starting point on iPhone. According to Apple’s security releases page, iOS 27.0.1 and iOS 26.7.1 are available for iPhone 11 and later. Apple released iOS 27 and iOS 26.7 on September 14, then followed with both point updates on September 28. Apple has not said why it changed the order in Software Update.
Both updates shipped September 28 with fixes worth installing
iOS 26.7.1 patches a CoreGraphics flaw tracked as CVE-2026-86950. It is an out-of-bounds write that could let a maliciously crafted file run arbitrary code, and Meta Product Security is credited with the report. Apple says it is aware of a report that the bug may have been exploited in an extremely sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals on versions of iOS before iOS 27.
We covered the details when the update first came out, in our iOS 26.7.1 CoreGraphics coverage. Installing it gives people staying on iOS 26 the patch without a major version change.
iOS 27.0.1 is a bug fix release with no published CVE entries. Apple’s update notes list three fixes. iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max could restart unexpectedly when Face ID failed to authenticate. A color artifact could show up in 2x photos taken at f/1.48 under certain lighting on a small number of those same phones. And opening Notification Center and Control Center at the same time could leave the touchscreen unresponsive.
Our iOS 27.0.1 release coverage has the full rundown. If you are still deciding on the bigger move, our guide to updating to iOS 27 covers what changes.
iPhone owners who are already on iOS 27 can install iOS 27.0.1 from the same Software Update screen. Apple’s security page now lists iOS 27.0.1 as the latest version of iOS and iPadOS.
