iOS 27 stopped being a beta today. Apple released the update to every compatible iPhone on September 14, and it brings the biggest set of changes the company has shipped in years.
If you spent the summer watching public beta screenshots and wondering whether to jump in, that decision just got easier. This is finished software, not a work in progress, and there’s now a much clearer picture of what you actually get depending on which iPhone is in your pocket.
Every iPhone 11 and Newer Can Install iOS 27
iOS 27 runs on any iPhone 11 or later, plus the iPhone SE (2nd generation) and newer. That’s the same device range as iOS 26, so nobody who updated last year gets left out this time.
Where things split is Apple Intelligence and Siri AI. Both need significantly newer hardware, and the gap between what an iPhone 11 gets and what an iPhone 18 Pro gets is bigger than any iOS update in recent memory.

Apple Intelligence Needs an iPhone 15 Pro or Newer
Apple Intelligence across apps works on the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and every iPhone 16 model and later. That covers Writing Tools, the new image generation features, and Apple Intelligence upgrades inside Photos, Safari, and the Camera app.
Image generation specifically comes with daily limits for everyone. iCloud+ subscribers on the 200GB tier and above get higher usage caps, though the 50GB tier is excluded from that boost. If you’re a heavy user of these features, your iCloud plan now matters more than it used to.
Siri AI Comes With a Waitlist and Regional Limits
Siri AI is the headline feature in iOS 27, and it’s rolling out in English first. French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish support arrives in October.
Siri AI won’t be available on iPhone or iPad in the EU at launch due to regulatory constraints, and it’s also unavailable in China while Apple works through separate approval issues there. Even where it is available, it runs on daily usage limits, with Apple planning paid access for higher usage down the line.
The most advanced version, including custom Siri voices, is restricted to the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone Air, and iPhone Duo. Everyone else on Apple Intelligence hardware gets Siri AI, just not the newest voice customization layer.
Battery Drain in the First Few Days Is Normal, Not a Bug
Right after updating, your iPhone spends time reindexing Spotlight, analyzing photos, and optimizing storage in the background. That work is what makes battery life dip and the phone run warm for a day or two after a major release, and iOS 27 is no exception.
Open Settings, then Battery, and look for an “Ongoing iOS Update” message. If you see it, your phone is still finishing that background work. Low Power Mode helps in the meantime, and supported iPhones can turn on Adaptive Power to automatically dial back usage on demanding days.
If battery life is still noticeably worse after four or five days and that message is gone, check Battery Health next. At that point it’s more likely an aging battery or a specific app than iOS 27 itself.
Who Should Install iOS 27 Today
- iPhone 15 Pro or newer, want Siri AI and Apple Intelligence: update now and join the Siri waitlist immediately.
- iPhone 11 through iPhone 14 lineup: you’ll still get Liquid Glass refinements, CarPlay updates, and the accessibility improvements, just without Siri AI regardless of when you install.
- This is your only iPhone and you rely on banking or authentication apps: back up fully first through Settings, then your name, then iCloud Backup, before tapping update.
Siri AI access has taken as long as several weeks to arrive for beta testers who joined the waitlist on day one. If you’re installing iOS 27 today and want in, open Settings, tap Siri, and join the waitlist before you do anything else.
