Cult Of Mac has received a tip from their exclusive anonymous source reporting that Apple plans to incorporate a Near Field Communication (NFC) Chip inside the iPhone 5. NFC is basically a short-range wireless technology currently in use in many Asian countries which could turn the iPhone 5 into an electronic wallet, a security passkey or even allow remote computing. Apple has recently been doing many NFC hires and has also filed patents for a lot of NFC based technologies. It is speculated that an NFC incorporated iPhone could allow users to carry their desktop data along and then transfer that wirelessly onto a compatible computer.

The anonymous source told Cult Of Mac:
“The Mac authenticates with the iPhone, which contains a lot of the information the computer needs, such as bookmarks, passwords and other data. The system would essentially turn any Apple computer into your own — like you’re actually working on your own computer. Same settings, look, bookmarks, preferences. It would all be invisible. Your iPhone would be all you needed to unlock your Mac.”
“When a person walks away with their iPhone and away from the communication link with the Mac, the original settings of the Mac would be restored. All communications and storage of passwords stays on the user’s iPhone, leaving nothing stored on the computer.”
Apple has reportedly been trying to develop a “Home folder” which is completely mobile for the last few years. However the exclusive source at Cult of Mac warns of a possibilty that this technology may never get to be implemented eventually. I personally believe we’ll have to give it some years before it can actually be incorporated in an iPhone 5 or any other mobile device. Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.

I didn’t need the iPhone 1. I had to have the iPhone 2 for the GPS. I didn’t need the iPhone 3 or 4, though I upgraded to 4. I NFC allows me to maintain a credit card on my phone, I will have to buy it. I am so tired of carrying around a wallet.
