iPhone Duo Repair Fees Top Out at $1,499 Without AppleCare+

Apple has now listed what it charges to repair an iPhone Duo without AppleCare+, and the top figure is $1,499. That is the US fee for damage outside the named repair categories.

The full set of eight fees ranges from $49 for the cover layer to $999 for the inner display. With the fees for buyers with AppleCare+ already public, both sets can now be compared side by side.

iPhone Duo repair fees

Inner display repairs cost $999 and other damage reaches $1,499

Among the named repairs, the inner display is the expensive one. Here is the full list of iPhone Duo fees without AppleCare+.

  • Cover layer damage: $49
  • Back glass damage: $199
  • Battery service: $229
  • Rear camera damage: $229
  • Outer display damage: $379
  • Outer display and back glass damage: $509
  • Inner display damage: $999
  • Other damage: $1,499

Repairs that involve two parts get a small discount. Outer display and back glass damage together costs $509, which is $69 less than paying $379 and $199 separately.

These are estimates for out-of-warranty service at Apple, and the final fee is set after the device is inspected. Apple Authorized Service Providers can set their own prices, and tax may apply.

AppleCare+ cuts most iPhone Duo repairs to $99 or less

AppleCare+ for the iPhone Duo costs $19.99 per month, $199.99 per year, or $399 upfront. With coverage, the repair fees drop sharply across the board.

  • Battery service below 80% capacity: $0
  • Cover layer damage: $19
  • Back glass damage: $29
  • Outer display damage: $29
  • Inner display damage: $99
  • Other accidental damage: $99
  • Theft or loss: $149

The inner display shows the difference best. A $999 repair without coverage becomes $99 with it, and even after adding the $399 upfront price, the $498 total is still $501 below the uncovered fee.

Paying monthly for a full year adds up to $239.88, which is $39.89 more than the $199.99 annual plan.

The replaceable cover layer is the cheapest iPhone Duo repair at $49

Apple hardware engineering vice president Kate Bergeron revealed that the nano-texture cover layer above the inner display can be removed and replaced. A new one costs $49 without AppleCare+ and $19 with it. A full inner display repair costs about 20 times as much at $999.

A battery replacement is $229 without coverage. With AppleCare+, Apple replaces it at no charge once capacity falls below 80%.

iPhone Duo pre-orders begin Friday, October 16, and the device launches Friday, October 23.
