Apple Now Blocks iPhone Duo Orders Above Two Units

Apple’s US online store now stops customers from ordering more than two iPhone Duo units at a time. Add a third unit to the bag and the store asks for the quantity to come back down before checkout can continue.

The notice says a maximum of 2 iPhone Duo can be purchased per customer. It has been circulating on the iPhone Duo subreddit, where customers report mixed results. A few say they ordered four units earlier in the pre-order window, and others say they hit the two-unit cap right away. The iPhone Duo product page does not mention a limit, so buyers only find out at the cart.

The Largest Order Is Two 2TB Units at $6,398

The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for the 256GB model in the United States and comes in night sky and star white. With two units as the ceiling, the biggest order for each storage size works out like this:

  • Two 256GB units cost $3,998.
  • Two 512GB units cost $4,398.
  • Two 1TB units cost $5,198.
  • Two 2TB units cost $6,398.

The notice refers to the total quantity of iPhone Duo in an order, so mixing storage sizes does not get around it. A second phone for a partner or family member is still possible, but a third is off the table at Apple’s online store and in the Apple Store app.

Carrier Offers Come with Limits of Their Own

Apple’s carrier terms for the iPhone Duo add caps beyond the two-unit rule. T-Mobile limits promotions to four per account on any iPhone, AT&T allows one credit per line and one trade-in per qualifying purchase, and Verizon ties its offer to iPhone availability and limits.

Financing also changes what you own at the end. A phone financed through AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon stays locked until it is paid in full, while one bought outright from Apple is unlocked in most cases.

Supply Was Already Tight Before the Cap Appeared

Apple has described demand for the iPhone Duo as extraordinary after pre-orders sold out, and delivery estimates slid past launch day within minutes of opening. Apple Store staff have also been told to warn walk-in customers that stock is unlikely on launch day.

Resale listings were already running well above Apple’s price. A 2TB iPhone Duo sold on eBay for $5,000, against Apple’s price of $3,199. A two-unit cap makes it harder to buy several phones for resale.

The iPhone Duo goes on sale on Friday, October 23.
